Tony learned a great deal about
shoeing from the Amish that he grew up around. Their knowledge and
centuries of horsemanship was taught to Tony at a young age. By the
time Tony was in high school, he was shoeing his own horses.
Tony has become an acclaimed farrier specializing in corrective
shoeing. He loves to watch as an animal that was once bound for
slaughter turns into a phenomenal saddle horse. He has shod
countless draft horses and worked for a horse ranch breeding the
endangered Suffolk Punch draft horse.
His greatest joy was from watching a
horse he bought out from under slaughter turn into the most
versatile horse we have in our herd. When Dollar first came to us,
it wasn't believed that the horse would recover from an eye and head
injury. After vetting his wounds for weeks, Tony started on his
feet. The overgrown hooves took nearly 16 months to correct, but the
horse is now Julia's primary English horse over fences and a
permanent figure in our family.
